Lawrence County completed the 2016 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region eight, the Red Devils earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Lawrence County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Scottsboro by a score of 38-27. The Red Devils last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Lawrence County has gone a combined 26-46. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 5A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lawrence County has managed to compile a record of 112-158. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 5A and 266th in the AHSAA. The Red Devils are led by head coach Rich Dutton who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 22-30 over the past five seasons at Lawrence County. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Dutton. Coach Dutton's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 22-30 (42.3%). Senior Jacob Gholston returns after rushing for 347 yards on 43 carries and scoring 2 touchdowns. The Red Devils open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Hartselle on Friday, September 1 at J.P. Cain Stadium. Last year the Hartselle Tigers finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in third place in Class 6A region eight. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs to Minor by a score of 48-17. Lawrence County and Hartselle have met a total of 57 times on the football field.
